Practices for Healing the Soul of the Healer

Welcome to the Practices for Healing the Soul of the Healer! This symposium addresses the critical need for resiliency education that prioritizes the well-being of our medical staff. Our primary goal is to enhance the resiliency levels of healthcare professionals, ultimately mitigating burnout and fostering a supportive work environment.

Objective: Elevate resiliency levels and provide tools to cope with challenging situations.
Format: Three 50-minute sessions, each covering a specific topic identified through learner surveys, with expert presenters in the field.

Each session will feature expert presenters in the respective fields, ensuring attendees receive valuable insights and practical tools to enhance their resiliency. The presenters will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to guide healthcare professionals through these critical topics.

Join us for an engaging and informative symposium dedicated to nurturing the souls of our healers and empowering them with the resilience needed to thrive in the demanding healthcare environment. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient healthcare community.

Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Chaplains and all others

Learning Objectives

By the end of this activity, every participant will be able to list at least one new strategy they have learned to enhance resilience levels and alleviate burnout in the post-activity evaluation.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies from the Baptist University of the Americas and a Master of Theological Studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jonatan currently serves as a board-certified palliative care chaplain at Houston Methodist Hospital.

 

Jessica Wright, DrPH

Legacy Community Health

Dr. Jessica Wright is the director of Learning and Development for Legacy Community Health, where she grows skills in clinical and non-clinical teams across the greater Houston area. Previously, Jessica held leadership roles in the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion as well as the Office of Academic Development at Houston Methodist. Her work within Academic Development helped clinicians and researchers become better teachers, better mentors and better scientists through active learning workshops and one-on-one coaching. She designs serious learning games to teach everything from statistics to emotional intelligence. Jessica holds a Doctorate in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health and she did her Post-Doctoral research in Quality Improvement Education at the Department of Veterans Affairs and Baylor College of Medicine. She currently holds faculty positions at the Institute for Academic Medicine, the University of Houston as well as the Texas A&M School of Medicine. Her research focuses on interprofessional team training methodologies and efficiency of learning. Jessica is a native of Houston and loves eating Vietnamese food, making watercolor paintings of dogs and playing board games with her wife, Shannon, and their three children.

Lead Social Worker- Palliative Care

Sarah Grudier, LCSW-S, APHSW-C is a licensed clinical social worker with the Supportive & Palliative Care Department at Houston Methodist Hospital. She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a specialization in Gerontology from the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. She holds board certification in advanced palliative and hospice social work. In her current role, she specializes in supporting patients and families coping with advanced illness, anticipatory grief, hospice transitions, and psychosocial issues at the end of life.

Houston Methodist is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.


 To be awarded 2.50 continuing professional development hours, the participant must attend the program in its entirety and complete the evaluation tool.
