ForwardPACU Neuro Course - January 28, 2026
This course is designed for perioperative and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) nurses who manage patients with complex neurological conditions following surgery or critical interventions. Learners will explore evidence-based practices for monitoring and managing intracranial pressure (ICP), external ventricular drains (EVD), lumbar drains, and other neuro-specific devices. The curriculum emphasizes early recognition of neurological changes, safe device handling, and collaborative strategies to optimize patient outcomes. Through interactive case studies and practical demonstrations, participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality neuro care in the PACU setting.

Learning Objectives
- Explain the principles of neurological monitoring in the PACU, including intracranial pressure (ICP) assessment and interpretation of neuro status changes.
- Demonstrate correct procedures for managing external ventricular drains (EVD) and lumbar drains according to evidence-based protocols.
- Identify early signs of neurological deterioration and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent complications in the PACU setting.
- Apply collaborative strategies for communication with neurosurgical and critical care teams to optimize patient outcomes.
