Nursing Science Abstract Writing Workshop: Demystifying the Abstract
This writing workshop is focused on abstract development. There will be a presentation on how to write abstracts for posters, podiums, presentations and publications. This session will provide the learner the opportunity to review, evaluate and practice skills that are critical to abstract development.
Target Audience
RNs, APRNs, LPNs/LVNs, PCAs and all Others
Learning Objectives
Upon Completion of this activity, learners will report knowledge of the process of abstract preparation and final development as reflected by greater than 75% of the participants reporting improvement in knowledge regarding abstract development.
The workshop will be a total of 2 hours. One hour will be dedicated to a discussion on abstract development and review. Following the discussion there will be a one-hour skills review to prepare components of a current or potential abstract submission. There will be nurse scientist available to assist with any questions and give direction during the abstract writing skills lab

Joanne Muyco, DNP, RN, NE-BC, CNOR
Dr. Joanne Muyco is a perioperative nurse with over over 12 years of nursing experience. Dr. Muyco’s clinical background is in perioperative nursing, with an OR specialty focusing on cardiovascular, thoracic, endovascular, robotic, transplant, and organ procurement surgeries. Her previous roles included staff nurse, charge nurse, and clinical educator. Prior to becoming a Nurse Scientist, Dr. Muyco was the CVOR Manager where she oversaw the day-to-day operations of a 24/7 department covering 4 major surgical service lines. Currently, Dr. Muyco is a Nurse Scientist at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. She uses her nursing expertise to advance nursing science and research, with a particular focus on perioperative nursing. Her clinical and research interests include cardiovascular/thoracic/transplant surgery, perioperative nursing science, implementation science, nursing leadership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in nursing
