
Lunch & Learn: The Treatment of OCD with Complex comorbidities--When to ERP VS When to Wait - April 29, 2026
This presentation will introduce evidence-based best practices for treating OCD in the presence of complex or severe comorbidities. Key guidelines and practical strategies will be discussed with particular emphasis on common challenges and important clinical considerations. Case examples will be presented followed by time for Q&A and open discussion. A light lunch will be provided in Smith 25 Conference Room A.

Learning Objectives
- Differentiate when to initiate ERP versus when to defer treatment (be able to identify clinical indicators on when ERP is versus is not warranted (active suicidality, psychosis, severe difficulties with emotion regulation, active eating disorder, etc.)
- Discuss how to integrate ERP into treatment for patients with co-morbid conditions (best practices for coordinating care including stabilization, pharmacotherapy, level of care adjustments and adjunctive therapies alongside ERP for OCD)
- Explain why ERP is not working for OCD or why CBT is not working for anxiety disorders if patients are stuck or severity is not significantly decreasing with recommended evidence-based intervention
