Physician Leadership Retreat: Responsibilities, Challenges & Opportunities. One day retreat on the importance of high-functioning physician leaders and the key role they play in developing high reliability within their organization. The program addresses the challenges they face in becoming transformational leaders and how these challenges may be overcome.

Objectives: Examine the unique challenges of making the transition from clinician to physician leader. We will:

  • Introduce and reinforce expectations and behaviors required for success
  • Describe and embody characteristics and behaviors of effective physician leaders
  • Develop approaches to apply to personal leadership practice

Break (20 minutes)

10:00-11:45am

Collaborating Across Boundaries (105 Minutes)

 

Objectives: Develop strategies for effective collaboration across roles and departments. Learn to:

  • Develop informal networks to exercise influence without direct authority
  • Navigate conflict and have courageous conversations
  • Build trust for productive working relationships

 

11:45-12:30pm

Thinking Strategically – Leading your Unit (90 Minutes)

 

Objectives: Provide a conceptual framework required to ensure departmental or service line growth consistent with organizational goals. Learn to:

  • Appreciate key concepts of competitive strategy and competitive advantage
  • Examine competitive threats and internal capabilities
  • Ask questions to support strategic decision-making

Objectives: Distill key takeaways, encourage ongoing leadership reflection and commit to action:
