Houston, TX US
May 14, 2026

This one-day intensive course equips nurses with the knowledge and skills to respond to emergency situations. Through lectures, simulation, and hands-on practice, the learner will enhance their confidence and critical thinking skills for early recognition of a clinically deteriorating patient and response.

Target Audience

Registered Nurses in Acute Care Settings

Learning Objectives

  1. Recognize early signs of clinical deterioration using assessment tools, monitoring trends, and patient presentation changes to initiate timely intervention.

  2. Apply structured clinical assessment frameworks (e.g., focused assessment, ABCDE approach, shock index, and MAP) to guide critical thinking and prioritize care.

  3. Differentiate between common clinical emergencies, including respiratory failure, stroke, hemorrhagic shock, and cardiac dysrhythmias, and identify appropriate initial nursing actions.

  4. Demonstrate effective escalation and communication strategies by activating appropriate response systems (CERT, Rapid Response, Stroke Alert, Code Blue) in a timely manner.

  5. Implement evidence-based immediate interventions including oxygen delivery, defibrillation, pacing, cardioversion, and emergency equipment use (e.g., Zoll monitor and crash cart).

  6. Accurately interpret and respond to patient monitoring data and technology outputs, including EDI, BioButton, vital signs trends, oxygenation parameters, and cardiac rhythms.

  7. Perform clear, timely, and legally sound documentation of emergent events using both electronic and paper systems, ensuring accuracy during high-acuity situations.

  8. Demonstrate effective teamwork and role clarity during emergencies by participating in simulated and real-time code scenarios using standardized communication techniques.

  9. Apply critical thinking to rapidly changing clinical situations to prioritize interventions and reduce delays in escalation of care.
