
HMTW NIHSS Stroke Assessment Intensive Improving Accuracy and Competence May 5, 2025
The NIHSS Stroke Assessment Intensive is designed to enhance the accuracy, consistency, and confidence of the nurse performing the NIHSS assessment. Learners will strengthen their NIHHS assessment skills through a focused review, real world examples, and clarification of commonly misunderstood criteria.
Target Audience
Registered Nurses
Objectives:
- Identify the individual components of the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and describe their clinical significance in the assessment of acute stroke patients
- Apply the NIHSS criteria accurately and consistently in simulated case scenarios, using standardized language and scoring methods
- Differentiate between commonly misunderstood or misapplied NIHSS criteria to reduce scoring variability and improve inter-rater reliability in clinical settings
