The Human Trafficking Awareness for Health Care Employees Course provides an
opportunity for staff to learn first-hand from a content expert, encompassing vital
information which will assist in recognizing, identifying, and offering resources for
patients who are currently or have been victims of human trafficking.

Target Audience

Registered Nurses 

Learning Objectives

  • Introduction to the definition of Human Trafficking
  • Identify the differences between Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling
  • Obtain knowledge surrounding the types of Traffickers
  • Recognize the physical and behavioral risk factors of a trafficked patient
  • Explore the importance of rapport building and creating a connection
  • Acquire awareness relating to common terminology within the sub-culture of trafficking
  • Discuss Houston Methodist policy and procedures for trafficked patients
  • Provide resources for trafficked patients
