HMPO JIMI Peer Supporters Training Modules

The JIMI Peer Support Training course equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to foster resilience, enhance emotional well-being, and reduce burnout among peers. Grounded in the principles of psychological first aid and the internationally recognized RISE model, this course delves into key elements of peer support, including effective communication, confidentiality, and stress recovery strategies. Participants will learn to navigate real-world scenarios, identify helpful and harmful responses, and uphold the mission and vision of the JIMI Peer Support program. By completing this course, learners will be prepared to confidently support colleagues while promoting a culture of well-being and excellence in patient care.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the purpose, mission, and vision of the JIMI Peer Support program.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of a JIMI Peer Supporter and differentiate between in-scope and out-of-scope situations.
  • Understand the triage process for peer support requests and the program’s timeline and developmental milestones.
  • Identify the physiological and psychological impacts of stress and explore the six stages of recovery from stressful events.
  • Understand the peer support process.
  • Understand key definitions central to the JIMI Peer Support program.
  • Understand the step-by-step peer support process, including triage and completion of the Peer Support Check In form.
  • Explore the principles of psychological first aid and emotional support.
  • Identify the 8 foundational principles of peer support in real-world scenarios.
  • Identify helpful and harmful responses in peer support conversations.
  • Review key policies related to confidentiality and duty to report.
