Foundations of Progressive and Critical Care (FPACC) Day 3
Historically progressive and critical care programs were offered separately. As staff sharing and professional opportunities have grown, so has the need for educational opportunities that overlap between the progressive and critical care unit(s). With patients becoming sicker in addition to the change in organizational needs, this course combines progressive and critical care components to allow for more robust staffing coverage between progressive and critical care units. This program will help provide the critical thinking that the nurses are lacking on the floor and help develop interdisciplinary relationships between progressive and critical care. This class works to spread out didactic information and combine it with hands on experience to improve learning and retention.
Nursing Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of this activity, the registered nurse will be able to:
- Apply an enhanced understanding of pathophysiology, pharmacology to management of conditions seen in the acutely ill progressive care/ critical care patient.
- Improve recognition of changing patient conditions
- Improve professional practice behaviors through enhanced critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills
Nurses attending this course will be able to provide high quality care based on an enhanced understanding of pathophysiology and pharmacology related to management of conditions seen in the acutely ill patient who requires enhanced interventions and monitoring. Nurses will be prepared to anticipate patient care needs, recognize changing conditions, initiate early interventions and provide accurate anticipatory guidance for patients in the progressive/ critical care setting.
Nurses will report via the post activity evaluation an increase in confidence in their ability to provide high quality care to acutely ill patients who require enhanced interventions and monitoring, including anticipating care needs, recognizing changing conditions, initiating early interventions, and providing accurate anticipatory guidance. They will identify at least one new learning they will be able to implement in practice.
