Foundations of Nursing Science Part II: Literature Review and Data Analysis
This course offers a comprehensive examination of the foundational elements necessary for conducting a nursing science project, focusing on literature exploration, research methodologies, and evidence-based practice frameworks. Students will begin by learning how to effectively explore and review existing literature, utilizing bibliographic databases to identify relevant studies. The course will introduce learners to the concept of levels of evidence, emphasizing the importance of critically evaluating sources to inform nursing practice. Learners will learn to assess various research methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, and apply these approaches to their own nursing inquiries. The course will also explore evidence-based practice frameworks, such as the Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice, Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), and DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). Additionally, understanding how to measure and evaluate outcomes to improve patient care will be discussed.
Target Audience
Registered Nurses, APRNs, LPNs, and LVNs
Learning Objectives
Upon Completion of this activity, learners should report and increase in exploring the literature, getting started with bibliographic databases, level of evidence, methods and frameworks for clinical inquiry (IOWA Model, PDCA, DMAIC) vs Nursing Intervention, Measurable Outcomes, data collection and data analysis for clinical inquiry as reflected in the post-evaluation survey of ≥75%.
