Foundations of Nursing Science Part I: What is Nursing Science?

March 11, 2025

To effectively navigate and complete a nursing science project, it’s essential to understand the distinctions between quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and nursing research, while identifying measurable outcomes that assess the quality of care. Clinical inquiry plays a crucial role in this process, and it is important to differentiate between various types of nursing science projects. A key aspect of project development is conducting a gap analysis, which involves identifying gaps in current practice and using this analysis to guide improvements. The Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice outlines specific steps for project development, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practices. Additionally, understanding the function of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is vital for project approval and oversight. Understanding the components of a PICOT question is fundamental in clinical inquiry, as it provides a structured approach to formulating research questions that guide evidence-based practices and outcomes. Please join us for an overview of clinical inquiry to assist in current and future project development.
