Foundations of Nursing Day I

The Foundations in Nursing course is for all new hire Houston methodist RNs starting in MedSurg/Tele/Progressive/IMU/ICU units. Using a blend of educational methods, the course will provide a general overview on nursing concepts and apply Houston Methodist policies and procedures on those nursing concepts. MedSurg/Tele should enroll in Day 1 & Day 2. IMU should enroll in Day 1 & Day 2 & Day 3 (IMU), ICU should enroll in Day 1, Day 2, Day 3(ICU).

Registered Nurses for newly hired nurses at HMH

Learning Objectives

Nursing Learning Outcome:

After attending Foundations in Nursing, Houston Methodist RNs will have a foundation to apply their nursing practice in alignment with Houston Methodist Policy and Procedures. In addition, RNs will have completed skills such as chest tube set up, fluid bolus responsiveness tests, Central/PICC line removal, simulation, Mock Codes, PCA set up, and DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) protocol. Finally, Nurse who have completed the course will receive information on knowledge gaps that will allow the unit educators to address and ensure the fulfillment of the identified knowledge gaps.
