Dr. Hayes is currently a Nurse Scientist for the Center for Nursing Research, Education and Practice at the Houston Methodist Academic Institute. Dr. Hayes is a native of Louisiana and has been resident of Texas for 11 years. She has been a registered nurse for 16 years, a family nurse practitioner for 12 years and nurse educator for six years. She has earned both her Bachelors and Master of Nursing from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA.
Dr. Hayes has also earned a postmaster in nursing education and PhD in Nursing from Jane and Robert Cizik School of Nursing at UT Health in Houston, Texas. She enjoys mentoring nursing students and advanced practice nurses through their journey in nursing practice.
She has a passion for clinical practice advancement and nursing education. Dr. Hayes has a continued interest in women’s health, BRCA mutations, breast cancer prophylaxis, racial disparities in breast cancer and its effects on psychosexual functioning.

Dr. Shannan Hamlin is the Director for the Center for Nursing Research, Education and Practice at Houston Methodist Hospital, Associate Professor at the Houston Methodist Institute of Academic Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Houston Baptist University, a Master of Science in Nursing and PhD degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Executive, adult critical care (CCRN) certified by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Hamlin serves on the editorial board for the journal Critical Care Nurse. The adult critically ill patient population has been the focus of Dr. Hamlin’s advanced nursing practice, research, and publications. She has worked in the critical care area at Houston Methodist Hospital as a clinical nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Research Fellow and Nurse Scientist. Dr. Hamlin’s research focuses on hemodynamics, failure to rescue and robotic assisted nursing.
