The Core Curriculum addresses the essential elements needed to care for both family and patient during chronic illness and End-of-Life. The Core Curriculum is made up of a eight different modules and will be divided up into four half-day sessions. This course will cover Part 3: Culture (Module 5) & Communication (Module 6).

 

The End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) Project is a national and international End-of-Life/palliative care educational program administered by City of Hope (COH) designed to enhance palliative care in nursing. Materials are copyrighted by City of Hope and the American Association o f Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and are used with permission.

Learning Objectives

Module 5: Culture
-Identify dimensions of culture and the influence of culture and spirituality on palliative care for patients across the lifespan.
-Conduct a cultural and spiritual assessment of patients facing serious illness
-Recognize the role of the interprofessional team in cultural and spiritual sensitivity.


Module 6: Communication
-Identify important elements of effective communication
-Discuss the importance of interprofessional communication and communication with the individual with serious illness and their family
caregivers.
-Describe steps in communicating bad news.
