This educational intervention focuses on enhancing charge nurses’ leadership skills, particularly in communication, emergency response, and patient safety, based on current evidence and recognized best practices. By providing charge nurses with targeted training in these critical areas, the healthcare institution can expect improved patient care, staff satisfaction, and operational effectiveness.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize my role in emergency situations, including proper interventions for BERT, CERT, Code Blue, and de-escalation scenarios, to improve their ability to respond effectively in critical situations.
  • Practice effective controlled substances management, particularly in resolving unreconciled doses.
  • Describe delegation and assignment-making principles, including the use of shift huddles, closed-loop communication, and managing staffing numbers in relation to patient acuity.
  • Practice communication and emergency management skills, particularly in managing staffing and patient interactions, with a focus on CERT, BERT, and de-escalation
  • Examine personal strengths and areas of opportunities in communication and facilitation skills.
  • Identify at least one new patient safety or quality improvement methodology (such as Quality NSI and TAPS) that will incorporate into practice
