This course will delve into the meaning of decisional capacity vs competency and the pertinent implications for social workers.

Ryan Dougherty is an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University School of Engineering Medicine, and biomedical ethics consultant at HMH. Ryan is a social worker by training whose research - and passion in clinic work - concerns how to best support patients who lack decisional capacity in high-stakes clinical situations.
