Beyond PowerPoint and Didactics: How to Add Active Learning Using the Flipped Classroom
Educational Development Workshop for nurse educators presented by the Office of Curriculum and Educational Development.
Active learning is an evidence-based approach to learning that engages learners through activities and discussion, as opposed to more passive forms of teaching such as lecture. The flipped classroom is one approach to active learning—it “flips” the usual classroom dynamic by spending the in-class time on application and discussion rather than information dissemination. This course will show you how to structure a flipped classroom experience and give you
ideas for how you can make your teaching more interactive.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the benefits of active learning
2. Recognize the basic structure of a flipped classroom
3. Identify common challenges and solutions to implementing flipped classrooms
Target Audience
