Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- List three benefits of minimally invasive surgery—a field that has seen many advances with the use of medical robotics.
- Define degrees-of freedom (DOF).
- Compare the increased tool dexterity offered by robot wrists to that of manual laparoscopic techniques.
- State three advantages offered by medical imaging at different stages in the surgical pipeline.
- Explain how the following techniques are used in medical image processing: segmentation, registration, volume rendering, and 3-dimensional (3D) reconstruction.
