Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: 

• Differentiate how sex-specific variations in the pathophysiology, symptoms, and treatment efficacy across both genders warrants a tailored approach for treating women with cardiovascular disease.

• Describe the unique risk factors and clinical presentations that are characteristic of the female population.

• Discuss the implications of estimates projecting that diabetes mellitus will increase in women from 199 million to 313 million by 2040.

• Analyze strategies to improve cardiovascular prevention, such as pharmacological interventions, lifestyle modifications, and systemic and community-level strategies.

• Explain the value of establishing dedicated Prevention and Cardiometabolic Clinics where high-risk women can be routinely monitored to improve implementation of primary prevention strategies.
