Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: 

  • Describe transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as an established treatment for elderly patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis across all surgical risk profiles.
  • Discuss the clinical outcomes from the landmark TAVI trials in the mid to long-term range (>=5 years).
  • Analyze long-term durability data from TAVI landmark clinical trials and surgical bioprostheses at mid-term follow-up when making decisions about proceeding with TAVI.
  • Implement the use of standardized definitions of bioprosthetic valve dysfunction as an important means for improving the analysis of data from long-term durability studies.
