Learning Objectives

  • Describe the key roles and responsibilities of a faculty mentor in developing an effective mentor-mentee relationship with residents.
  • Establish clear expectations, goals, and communication strategies with mentees at the beginning of the mentoring relationship.
  • Apply effective questioning and active listening techniques to move beyond routine check-ins and identify residents’ professional, academic, and developmental needs.
  • Utilize mentorship strategies that support resident goal setting, professional development, career planning, and ongoing growth.
  • Develop an individualized approach for maintaining a meaningful mentorship relationship through regular engagement, feedback, follow-up, and assessment of progress.
