Foundations in Nursing (FIN) Day 2

Overview

The Foundations in Nursing course is for all new hire Houston methodist RNs starting in MedSurg/Tele/Progressive/IMU/ICU units. Using a blend of educational methods, the course will provide a general overview on nursing concepts and apply Houston Methodist policies and procedures on those nursing concepts. MedSurg/Tele should enroll in Day 1 & Day 2. IMU should enroll in Day 1 & Day 2 & Day 3 (IMU), ICU should enroll in Day 1, Day 2, Day 3(ICU).

 

Target Audience

Registered Nurses for newly hired nurses at HMH

Learning Objectives

Nursing Learning Outcome:

1. By the end of the class 100% of nurses will complete a return demonstration of their skills
a. Lab draw order, blood product transfusions, electrolyte management, code blue emergencies and equipment, EKG analysis, stroke patient recognition, pain screening tools, trach care, central line removal, and basic transplant patient management
2. At the end of the day at least 85% of the participants will state they had an increase in knowledge and are more confident with the skills they learned at the end of day two.
3. At the end of day two all nurses will score at least an 85% on their posttest, if they are unable to score an 85% the nurses will complete remedial education with their in-unit educators.
