
Visualizing Research Data 6.27.23
Part of scientific communication strategies that faculty need to best disseminate their work, this course offers best practices for data visualization and figure types used to convey research data and indications for usage. This 90-minute workshop is led by Rachael Whitehead, Senior Scientific Illustrator, Academic Affairs, Houston Methodist Academic Institute and includes both a lecture and problem solving in groups. By the end of this course, attendees will be able to
- Review the basic elements of design that make up a successful figure or poster, including layout, organization, text, color, and graphical elements
- Discuss the variety of visualization and figure types that can be used to convey research data and when best to use them
- Analyze examples and offer the opportunity for participants to share their figures or posters for review
