Learning Outcome

At the end of this activity, the learners will: 

  • Discuss the different phases of Transition Shock Theory as outline by Duchscher. 

  • Identify the responses commonly experienced during the transition shock. 

  • Name common stressors and early transition challenges. 

  • Describe the differences between student/prior experience professional nurse/role expectation.   

  • Apply evidence-based decision-making models to patient care. 

  • Use SBAR and other structured communication tools when interacting with interdisciplinary teams. 

  • Discuss effective coping mechanisms for managing stress during the transition period.
