Overview

Clinician Educator Pathway Program is designed to enhance participants’ versatility as teachers, enhance their ability to analyze clinical teaching using an educational framework and provide a forum for collegial exchange. In addition, participants will learn principles, guidelines and behavioral alternatives that teachers can use to improve their teaching effectiveness.

Session 4:  Helping Learners Progress Through Feedback and Evaluation 

Feedback helps learners know what they are doing well and what they need to work on. Providing effective feedback is a skill, and this course is designed to help participants improve at giving both verbal and written feedback. We will discuss feedback challenges and solutions and have opportunities to practice with case scenarios.

 

Target Audience

Educators and professionals responsible for learner development in nursing, allied clinical training, undergraduate and graduate medical education, and clinical teaching.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify strategies for giving oral feedback. 

2. Explain differences between norm and criterion-based feedback.  

3. Discuss key attributes of effective written feedback.

Christine Ford, EdD, Curriculum Developer

Office of Curriculum and Educational Development

Dr. Christine Ford serves as Curriculum Developer for the Office of Curriculum and Educational Development. In this role, she teaches workshops related to teaching skills and curriculum design to a diverse audience including GME teaching faculty, system quality and safety, nursing, pharmacy, PT/OT, music therapy, and spiritual care. Dr. Ford provides individual and departmental-specific education, partnering with stakeholders to address their unique needs and provide tailored, customized content.

Dr. Ford brings 10 years of medical education experience to her role. She most recently worked for McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in faculty development and was previously a Medical Education Specialist at UTMB. Dr. Ford received her Ed.D. in Ethical Leadership from the University of St. Thomas in 2019.
